The corporate world is jam-packed with meetings, presentations and important private conversations. In the midst of all the activity how can you be memorable? What will separate you from the rest of the herd? What will make people think you’re a leader, manager and one to watch?

If you want to be persuasive and influential you need to master the basics of strong leadership: public speaking and presentation skills. Individuals who want to progress to the next level in their organisation need to develop these skills to influence those around them and to demonstrate their potential as future leaders.

The programme
This six hour executive coaching programme will help experienced professionals like you master the persuasive elements of public speaking and presenting. Over two half-day sessions (with homework in between) or one full day session you will learn how to: understand your audience and purpose and prepare strong, effective presentations that harness the power of storytelling.

Executive coaches

Margaret E. Ward is an experienced conference host, speaker, media presenter and voiceover artist. She spent 25 years as a journalist, mainly as a national newspaper reporter, columnist, investigative journalist and editor (Irish Times, Sunday Times and Newstalk). She is CEO of Clear Ink and a communications specialist who teaches writing and presenting skills courses to sales and marketing teams in large organisations in Ireland, Europe, the United States and the Middle East. She was nominated to the RTÉ Board by the Oireachtas in 2014.

What will you learn?

This course, which is taught over two half-day sessions or one full day, covers the communications skills needed to persuade various audiences and to make a good public impression.
The course will involve a great deal of work on content as well as practical speaking and writing exercises both as an individual and within a group. It will include lively discussions and debate as well as group exercises and analysis.

This course will:

  • Help you understand your audience and purpose
  • Demonstrate the persuasive power of storytelling and word choice
  • Show you how to match your message to the audience
  • Teach you how to use and interact with audio-visual aids more effectively
  • Shape and sharpen your content for maximum effect

Speaking in public can be a nerve-wracking experience. Faced with an audience, it’s all too easy to succumb to the collywobbles and let nervous tension show in your voice and posture, even if you already have some experience in speaking publicly.

This course will help you hone your speaking style, and give you specific vocal and physical tools and techniques to enable you to speak clearly and confidently in public.

Kathleen is an experienced acting and voice coach, and has worked extensively in the theatre and in the corporate world. She is the perfect person to help you perform in public. She promises plenty of laughter and says participants can expect to leave the course relaxed and reinvigorated.

 

What will you learn?

The course covers any situation where you might have to speak in public as a professional, such as giving a presentation, making a pitch or taking part in a conference panel.

The day will involve lots of practical activities, such as group interaction and discussion, physical and vocal exercises, practical sessions, presenting prepared material and receiving evaluation.

This one-day course will cover:

  • perspectives on speaking
  • exploring your speaking patterns
  • increasing awareness of physical movement
  • nervous tension and its impact on the voice
  • tools to counter the effects of nerves
  • maximising vocal resonance and other vocal techniques
  • developing your authentic voice
  • learn to use and interact with audio-visual aids with more effectiveness
  • methods and techniques for shaping your content for maximum effect

You will also discuss different, more human, ways to approach networking including attending an actual event. This programme will also touch on basic social media networking and personal branding techniques.

Executive coaches
Kathleen Warner Yeates is an actress and voiceover artist who has been teaching public speaking and voice skills for more than 30 years at various institutions, including Villanova and Penn State universities in the US. She was also the acting company manager for TEAM Educational Theatre, a theatrical production company established more than 35 years ago out of the Abbey National Theatre. She has an MA in acting and directing, and a BA in related arts and theatre.
